A Place for Annie (1994)

Baby Annie (Kathy and Leslie Anderson) is H. I. V. positive and has been left in the clinic by her drug addicted mother, Linda (Mary-Louise Parker). To stop her from being taken to a home where they'd just wait for her to die, nurse Susan Lansing (Sissy Spacek) takes charge of Annie, and takes her home.

Two years later, she plans to adopt her but suddenly, Annie's mother reappears and demands her back. And under the law, Susan, as a foster mother, has no claim to the child.
