Sajini Shinde (Radhika Madan), is a physics teacher in one of the reputed schools (KP High School) of Pune. The film starts with a party scene in Singapore where Sajini, Shraddha (Shruti Vyas) and Chhavi Joshi (Rashmi Agdekar) are celebrating Sajini's birthday. Sajini was in Singapore on a school trip as chaperon for students who were participating in a robotics competition.
Sajini was apprehensive about partying at a nightclub, but her fiance, Siddhant Kadam (Soham Majumdar), boosted her confidence by asking her to behave like a modern woman. Siddhant works in Bangalore and he and Sajini are having an arranged marriage. Sajini decided to let go of her inhibitions and enjoy the night. After few drinks, Sajni went for a free wheeling dance and videos are shot and posted online by Shraddha. Shraddha was posting photos from the robotics competition, but was very drunk and ended up selecting some photos and videos of Sajini as well. As a young school teacher from a small town stuck between traditional values and modern ambitions, Sajini found herself in a nightmarish situation when the video of hers went viral and evoked a adverse response in her city, Pune, in her school and in her hometown, Ahmednagar. While she returns to India, she was promptly sacked from the school by Kalyani (Bhagyashree), the Principal, under pressure from outraged parents and committee members. Kalyani tried to argue that the teachers are good, but the committee members cannot fathom a drunk, female teacher, who danced in skimpy clothes between other half naked men, to be employed at their school. Turns out that Kalyani had removed Sajini from the robotics team and Shraddha had taken Sajini to Singapore on her own expenses. Sajini requested the Principal to reinstate her, but she did not agree. Siddhant has stopped picking her calls. Her father Suryakant (Subodh Bhave) is a reputed theater actor, autocratic and her family is conservative. Aakash (Ashutosh Gaikwad) is her younger brother. She realized that she has nowhere to go. Sadashiv (Shashank Shende) is Suryakant's elder brother and lives in the same house as them. The story proceeds with Sajini disappearing after writing a suicide note on her social media blaming her family and fiance for the suicide. Shraddha raises enough of a stink for the sleepy Pune cops to wake up. This incident turns into a major public debacle and the police are pressurized into taking definitive steps to investigate Sajini's disappearance. Inspector Bela Barot (Nimrat Kaur) and Inspector Ram (Chinmay Mandlekar) are deputed to solve the case. Siddhant hires a lawyer Lalit Pandit (Sumeet Vyas) since he was directly named in the suicide note. Siddhant refuses to talk to Bela without his lawyer being present and starts getting hallucinations of Sajini stalking him. Siddhant goes on the run from the police but is easily tracked by Bela. Suryakant is politically connected and not afraid of Bela. But his sponsors pull out of his theatre shows due to the negative publicity surrounding him leading his daughter to suicide. Aakash is disgusted that nobody in his family is making a serious effort to locate Sajini. Bela finds that Sajini's mobile has been activated in Bangalore. Bela finds that Suryakant had another daughter named Ranu, who disappeared 15 years ago. Suryakant hires Yashwant Desai (Kiran Karmarkar) as his lawyer. Aakash tracks Chhavi and finds Siddhant who had come to meet Chhavi. Siddhant meets Suryakant at his house. Suryakant believes that Sajini met Siddhant while she was in Bangalore, as her mobile was traced near Siddhant's company. The police recover Sajini's personal effects from a lake formed due to a dam. In the belongings was one visitor card issued by Siddhant's company, which indicates that Sajini met Siddhant in Bangalore. Bela takes Siddhant into custody and says that he first agreed to marry a girl whom he could dominate, and then pressured her into doing things like having sex 3 times without a condom. Bela had access to all of Siddhant's WhatsApp chats with Sajini. Lalit intervenes and gets Bela to release Siddhant since there is no proof that Sajini is dead yet, and Siddhant was not with Sajini when she went missing. Bela doesn't believe that Sajini died by jumping off a dam. She gets Sajini's mother Urmila (Sneha Raika), alone and away from Suryakant and questions her. Bela wants to know why she and Suryakant met Sajini on the night she went missing. Urmila is adamant that they never met Sajini that evening and reveals that Suryakant only visited his mistress in Pune. Yashwant calls Lalit and Siddhant for a meeting with Suryakant. Yashwant wants Siddhant to admit to abusing Sajini and absolving Suryakant of any involvement. Yashwant says that Siddhant took a dowry of Rs 80 Lakhs from Suryakant with which he bought a house in Bangalore, which Siddhant claims is a loan. Lalit refuses to sign any such paper as that would simply prove that Siddhant is guilty. Siddhant reveals that he knows Suryakant was in Pune the night she disappeared and wants to know what he did to her. Sadashiv is super aggressive at the meeting and even threatens to physically beat up Siddhant. Bela is getting irritated with Shraddha's social media activism and confronts her. She lashes that Shraddha is the prime instigator and a suspect in the case, as she took Sajini to Singapore and posted her video online. Bela warns Shraddha to let Police do their job. Bela also meets Kalyani who asks her IT manager Milind Sabne (Akshay Tanksale) to give data from school's computers to Bela. Later, Kalyani promises a permanent post to Milind for his cooperation. Bela sends divers to the dam, who recover shoes matching what Sajini was wearing that night when she disappeared. Forensic analysis reveals that the blood splatter on the shoes indicates that she fell from a height and landed hard, which puzzles Bela as she landed in water where impact cannot be hard. Suryakant and Aakash go to meet Siddhant's parents, and Aakash uses a distraction to steal a pen drive from Siddhant's room. Siddhant comes back and his parents ask him to keep a gift carpet in Suryakant's car, where he finds hatchet in the back and takes a photo of it. Aakash finds that the pen drive had recorded videos of Siddhant having sex with Sajini. Aakash confronts Siddhant, but he runs away. Bela looks at Sajini's chat rooms and tracks down Ranu, her elder sister. Turns out Suryakant had helped Ranu run away to escape the ultra-conservative views of Sadashiv who would not allow an ounce of freedom to the girls. Bela then analyses the suicide note determines that it was not
