A man in the Korea army leaves his wife for another woman. Storyline 

A man in the Korea army leaves his wife for another woman. Unable to live with himself, he volunteers to go to the Vietnam War as punishment after starting a fight with his superior who reveals his infidelity. His wife, Soon-yi, is sent by her mother-in-law every month to visit her husband and conceive a child.

After several unsuccessful months, Soon-yi reveals to her mother-in-law that her husband has left her for another woman, and has volunteered for the Vietnam War to get himself killed. Angered that her daughter-in-law allowed this to happen, the mother orders Soon-yi to travel from Korea to the Vietnam War in order to reunite with her husband and bring him home. In order to make it there, Soon-yi must join a band as an entertainer and make her way across a war zone. Upon joining the bar the shady lead singer spices up her name with a more western version, Sunny. Sunny soon discovers she must leave behind the simple traditional life she knows in order to meet her goal at all cost. Along the way all the band members change as they reflect on the events around them, and the lengths at which Sunny goes to find her husband. At the same time her husband struggles to survive in the deadly battlefields of Vietnam, coming with realize what it means to care about others.
