Storyline
An architect with a development firm, Mel Carver invited her boyfriend, maintenance man Ben Shields, to move in with her and her teenage daughter Brook Carver, they having met when she hired him to do some work on the house.
Ben is Mel's first boyfriend since the death of her husband Scott, who she found dead in the attic of the house, there where neither she or Brook have felt the need to go to since. Soon after, Mel feels that it was a mistake to ask Ben to move in, no matter how accommodating he tries to be, the problems a combination of them having moved too fast in their relationship and she feeling that their want to give each other space, which they have, is more of a relief for her than a want to spend more time with him. If being truthful to herself, her feelings also include being attracted to her colleague, Sam, the two having spent more time together of late in working on a project together. Shortly after Ben moves out, Mel, in the house, begins proverbially to hear those mysterious bumps in the night and see out of the corner of her eye moving shadows where such noises and shadows should not be. What Mel is unaware of is that Ben has positioned himself to watch over Mel and the house, the first place that he has ever considered a home, the situation there with Mel which he will not give up lightly.
